About the race
La Guaira prepares to host an open water swimming competition for the first time, an unprecedented event in the country that seeks to promote swimming and sea safety. The initiative, named Aquamaster Ecoswim Openwater, stems from the personal experience of its founder, Jonás Alvarado, who, after overcoming his own fear of the ocean, decided to promote swimming instruction as a life-saving tool in response to the high drowning rates in Venezuela.
The event stands out for its ecological focus, rewarding participants with medals made from recycled plastic and rubber. With the backing of the World Open Water Swimming Association (USA) and the participation of Olympic athlete Paola Pérez as an ambassador, the competition aims to be an inclusive space for all ages, promoting both the sporting experience and environmental awareness.
