About the race
The Japan International Open Water Swimming Association (JIOWSA) is an organization dedicated to the promotion and development of open water swimming in Japan. Founded in 2009, the association organizes open water swimming races, natural sports events along the country's coastlines, and pool competitions, with the goal of providing safety and health for all participants.
Beyond competitions, the association actively promotes seminars, swimming lessons, and training programs for instructors. The organization's mission is based on seven key principles, including the fusion of environment and sport, the strengthening of athletes, and the revitalization of local communities, constantly encouraging participants to learn about, respect, and protect the marine environment.
How to get there
The series takes place in various coastal locations (e.g., Tateyama, Okinawa). Main airports: Haneda (HND) or Narita (NRT) for Tokyo/Tateyama, Naha (OKA) for Okinawa. Travel via train (JR Pass recommended) or domestic flights. For the races, renting a car is often necessary to reach the beaches. Parking is available at the race sites.
