About the race
The Dakar–Gorée Crossing is an iconic event in Senegalese swimming, organized since 1985. This race, which celebrates over 40 years of history, brings together thousands of swimmers every year, from champions to amateurs, to brave the waters of the Atlantic and reach the island of Gorée, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
More than just a sporting competition, the crossing is described as a rite of passage and a national symbol of courage, unity, and self-transcendence. The event is overseen by the Fédération Sénégalaise de Natation et de Sauvetage (FSNS), ensuring the safety of participants throughout the course.

Kayaking is a popular way to observe the mangroves that line the nearby estuaries, providing a quieter perspective on the coastal ecosystem compared to the open sea.
