About the race
The Dakar–Gorée Crossing is an iconic event in Senegalese swimming, organized since 1985 by the Fédération Sénégalaise de Natation et de Sauvetage (FSNS). Each year, more than 1000 swimmers gather to brave the waters of the Atlantic and reach the island of Gorée, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
More than just a sporting competition, this crossing is described as a rite of passage and a national symbol of unity and courage. The event attracts both champions and amateurs alike, united by the personal challenge of covering the distance between Dakar and the legendary island, in an atmosphere of solidarity and self-transcendence.
